I think this is the precise reason why every industry and function has a process framework. Working around processes/functions and its value maps while creating a solution is the best way to not just meet customer expectations but also ensure that your products play well with other products a buyer might have.

Processes and sub process maps like Procure 2 Pay, Order 2 Cash, etc, are there for a reason. They tend to make life simpler for buyers making a choice and also help ensure that your product doesn't have process blind spots that will kill it.

The big guys in the ERP space have perfected this approach and it's something a lot of business oriented startups don't seem to consider.
