Without it there's no way I (as a consumer) will engage in commerce with a party I don't already trust absolutely. And if intermediaries have to be used we get back to fees and chargeback. BTC is not a good consumer payments system.

For me this depends on the price. While I would want to have protection for (say) £100, I'd be less concerned about that and more concerned about fraud if I was buying something for £1.
