Nothing inconsistent here, really. To the USA, a French national is _their_ very own people, not _our_ very own people.
Of course, there are two ways to quell that fear, either adjust circumstances so people don't generate the voices, or suppress the voices so they can't be heard. At home it's going to the latter.
If all countries would implement that, the aviation industry would be in deep trouble. But then again the climate would benefit. Perhaps this is DJT's secret agenda...;-p
