Despite the seeming equality, renting your property and “rent-seeking” are actually not the same thing. Housing requires maintenance, cleaning, repairs, and plenty other upkeep. The value of renting your property is not a result of manipulation of the social or political environment. Your angst is misplaced, though I feel for you.
