Posted a couple times on HN recently, that said I haven't seen solid confirmation from either my own sources nor from The Print, The Wire, or the Indian Express - all three of whom have very strong sources within the BJP, INC, the Judiciary, and the IAS.

My hunch is this was done to distract from the (credible) rumors of "One Nation One Election" which itself might be used to start an early election.

Please do not promote politics here.

Please see - https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

"Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic."

"Please don't use Hacker News for political or ideological battle. That tramples curiosity."

Politics aside, something like a potential name change of a country is important to know for people on here e.g. those who implement systems that in some way have to deal with the names, for example when Turkey changed to Türkiye it there was also a thread on here.

Now in the end those choosing which name to display can never be apolitical, you can only be very clever and diplomatic about it — but in order to achieve that you have to stay informed about the context of different variants.

E.g. think about China and Taiwan. If you have Taiwan in your applications list of countries, you are political. If you don't have it in your list of countries, you are also political.
