70s kids rode in the back of the pickup truck. They'd yell at us not to jump around too much back there.

Car seat laws are fun, they often talk about size and (hopefully, usually) age: Some small people have a legal grey area where they should legally be in a car seat as they learn to drive.

In Singapore even today, all passengers in a car must wear seatbelts, unless they're crammed into the back of a pickup truck.

1980s kids too. I remember after tee-ball my entire team would hop into the back of the coach's pickup and ride to get ice cream.

We did this in the 2000s as well

Meanwhile my son is almost 3 and already approaching a size where he legally only needs a booster seat.
