A reminder that Guix is a rolling release (doing a "guix pull" gets you the latest package definitions, "guix package --upgrade" upgrades a user's packages, and "sudo guix system reconfigure" with a system configuration file upgrades the system). Generally you want to do this frequently to have the latest and greatest. I like to think of these releases as a snapshot with a better tested installer and other checks to get new users, as well as a time to reflect on all the amazing work everyone has put in to the project.
