God no. Just because I have a desktop PC with a big monitor, doesn't mean that I'll always have one fullscreen browser window occupying all of it. For all the troubles of responsive design, it's really nice to be able to tuck a website into a very narrow viewport at the edge of the screen to do something else while keeping an eye on it.
