The thin slices shown in the photos seemed a bit suspicious, so I looked at the paper and they seem to be a millimeter thick:

And the wood was also from a balsa wood log, so this method is making something remarkably flimsy.

At least from what I saw in a previous paper on this idea, it sounds like it's fairly difficult to get the epoxy into a thicker wood sample.



This is also mentioned near the start of the linked article: "Starting with planks of wood a metre long and one millimetre thick"


They also say it is effective up to 3mm with the balsa wood.


Can you please read the article before posting? The thickness is mentioned in the article and also the fact that the technique works for numerous species of wood.
