Even on a 400ppi phone screen at typical viewing distances it is possible to tell whether a slanted line is anti-aliased or not. Font anti-aliasing is not becoming obsolete any time soon.

I agree, anti-aliasing is certainly still required at 400dpi. Although subpixel anti-aliasing is not.
