Not OP, but I have an answer. Had to take some time off to deal with the fallout from a nasty divorce. Afterwards, was financially "desperate" due to alimony (which assumes that you never take time off and can always get a new job that pays the same as your prior one).

Turns out that it really is hard to get a job when you don't already have one.
