For the web development subset of programmers, the Microsoft loathing may be inspired by Microsoft's disdain for web standards. Microsoft are, in a very real and palpable way, making client side web developers' lives a lot harder than they'd have to be.

I don't hate Microsoft or anything, just saying that this might serve as fuel for that kind of fire.
