doesnt specify how much longevity, just says hope to add years. i didn't read it, asked GPT, because I'm not going through all that to dig out an answer they may not have included just to make you read it

i wonder if a visual of any kind would help

That is neat as hell!

Yeah, it's confusing to see empty READMEs like this, especially for a visual effect. The demo is at https://bgstaal.github.io/multipleWindow3dScene/ if you want to play around with it.

This can be said about 99% of GitHub repositories.

When I first started using GitHub, I thought there must be some reason that no one ever included images in their README. Maybe it's not considered cool, I thought.

Visuals are hard to include because you need to store them somewhere. If you store the in the git repo, they bloat the repo. It's really annoying to clone a repo and having to wait forever because it has a bunch of binaries in it. I try to use SVG whenever possible, sometimes animated with CSS (see example[1]) as they are made if text and are much smaller. When I need non-SVG images, I host them externally, but that's a bit if an overhead and you need to make sure you don't break the image link accidentally.

I believe if you just copy paste an image in the GitHub text editor, or drag and drop one into it, GitHub will automatically upload it to their own image upload service and will insert the markdown code to show it.

I believe that's true, but I'd guess most people don't edit their README using the GitHub editor.

i (biasedly) thought this was going to be a reddit-like infinitely nested threaded interface to chat with GPT (as opposed to the serial chat-like dialogue based one.

That's what I thought, too. Such an interface would be awesome to explore multiple trains of thought simultaneously and efficiently.

With the ability to seemlessly merge branches together using smart conflict resolution algorithms, this can be an invaluable tool for better decision-making.

> their motivations aren’t entirely altruistic

well obviously. who is going to expend the resources and headache to fight the powerful evil wraths of Google and Facebook on such a notion as altruism

The government?

> Why would I assume any company would act in my interests when they have clear incentives to increase their profits and control by acting counter to them?

Even without perverse incentives, why would another agent in your environment have any reason to go out of their way to have your best interest at heart?

> Also a despotic regieme could still do good engineering and science and colonize other planets and whatnot, making it less likely we go extinct, also it would be likely to fragment into different societies at that point.

Is it bad that deep down, I feel that I don't care for humanity's proliferation or "success" if my progeny is not part of it? for instance, if our current human population is decimated by some bioweapon, and somehow humanity resurfaces and successfully ventures into the stars (without my genes), then I care not for it?

Given that your descendants several generations removed would carry hardly any of your genetic makeup, and would have no memory of you, they might as well be the progeny of anyone. Or are you saying you also don't care what people achieve in a few hundred years from now?

No, I care a lot about the future of humanity, but only if my progeny is a part of it. I was my descendants to be among those colonizing the stars. I guess it's kind of like the difference between having sex vs watching porn.

> Is it bad that deep down, I feel that I don't care for humanity's proliferation or "success" if my progeny is not part of it?

No. Since you have no stake in the future why would you care to invest in it? Makes zero sense. If you do not have a progeny, focus on maximizing your pleasure instead of caring for the world that isn't going to remember you.

The biological purpose of human life is to reproduce, and making sure your progeny reproduces until the heat death of the universe. All the education and hoops most people pass through are just ways to gain access to better mates and ensure better survival of your progeny like civilizations that become multi-planetary will be more resistant to any proliferation event.

If you believe in a religion that is Abrahimic like Judaism, Christianity or Islam, then you'd have another meaning to life.

It's so easy to focus on our differences, but the fact is that humans are very similar. Heck 96% of your DNA letters are the same as that of a chimpanzee. So even if you have no direct descendants your genes will be passed on.

would it be possible to filter the frames of the video such that only a certain app is shown? so if you're tabbing back and forth then the desired app is shown

With chrome you can define which tab or application you would like to record, instead of the entire screen. I think that would do what you require?

> I built this website because I was tired of quora asking me to sign up all the time

not to be condescending but isn't that the natural convergence point of all these apps assuming you're operating in a capitalist environment? so the way I see it, your app either will stay unpopular and without signups and aggressive user conversions, or it will get big, and become quora. die young or live long enough to be the villain as they say.

You're probably right, but the main thing I hated was that I couldn't even click on an answer while being on the site, without being asked to log in. That's a feature I won't add to my site. Sign ups may be required in the future, but they're only bad if the user gets forced to sign up, when the only thing they want to do is to read a question.

yeah that was the reason i stopped using quora

neat! maybe instead of a 7min tutorial a 10 second demo would be nicer to have at the top

> I never even realized I was developing coping skills vs. just developing normal skills

do you have some examples? i suspect the majority of mine are the former

Sure. I'm happy to share individually, but I don't really want to post them on a public board. My email's in my profile if you want.

how do i see it in your profile?

It, uh, helps that I make sure it's visible to others first. Sorry about that. Please check my profile again.
