It's an April fools joke

That's too bad. It's a good idea.

He uses this screen reader: http://www.freedomscientific.com/Products/Blindness/JAWS

It doesn't have Linux support though so if he needs to work in the Linux OS, he uses Windows with a Linux VM

It's not built specially for software developers but just all visually impaired users in general

Thanks for the kind words! Appreciate it :)

Came here to say exactly this as well! This definitely makes one feel better about the world! :D

Hi everyone! Thanks for the support and reply. Wasn't expecting this kind of response when we wrote the article.

Herwin is visually impaired since birth so he definitely picked up coding with a screen reader. I have notified him of the comments here so he can share more of how he initially picked up coding himself. :)

I saw that you said you do video interviews, have you considered running "blind" interviews like how orchestras do? Applicants to orchestras play from behind a screen so that the judges selecting the candidates cannot see the candidate, and the only metric by which they can judge is the quality of the performance. Determining sex/age/race/etc through voice could be eliminated through audio filtering.

Whoa! Great article. Even though I use the tool a lot, I didn't know it could do some of the things you highlighted. Definitely a good read for both pros and people new to Chrome Dev Tools :)

Have you signed the papers with A? If you have, might want to check the consequences of leaving early or is there a probation period of 1-2 months where you and company A have the right to terminate the employment within 24 hours? If yes, then I'd say take (a) in case B does make you a real offer after the background checks :)

I allready accepted the offer and everything is finalized. Start this week. Since they hired me after just one phone call, I know they plan on reviewing my performance after three months, but that's about it. If I abandon the job, it says I'd forgo any compensation but that's about all in the contract and employment handbook

Alright! Focus on doing a great job at (a) and see how things go with B from there. Who knows, you may fall in love with the work you're doing at A and change your mind :)

You can try honing your skills by first taking on some freelance projects! Or still working on cool random apps on the side! Build something for the medical industry perhaps? :)

I did coded a mammography scanner software (I am a radiologists) for analyzing the density of the breast and categorizing it according to how dense or fatty is. It's a wip but needs a lot of work, mainly on the scientific side.

Just like Warren Buffett saying don't go in short and fast. Always go in for the long haul.
