I am not able to promote this, I wish I could. But I came to know from another friend that they tried to do a promocode within their IAP app, and they got rejected by Apple. So mum's the word.
On the other hand, we'll do the same for Android app as well. Because Android has no promocodes and that suck! I hope once thats done, we'll be able to make it public.
For app developers, promocodes are a wonderful thing for 1) customer service, 2) media outreach, 3) reaching out to app reviewers.
Its painful when you switch from selling standalone app to In-App-Purchase, because Apple doesn't have promocodes. But we couldn't do without it, so we built it into the app.
Is it against Apple's Terms&Conditions? I don't know. Regardless, its #HackerPride!
Very interesting post. First of all, congrats on making Fandalism such a success.
I am a musician too, and 10+yrs back, I used to browse Harmony Central for all kinds of gears. Read reviews, read NAMM report, check out used gears classifieds.
One idea would be, just like you have artists and people give thembs up to artist, you could create profiles for gears. Then connect artists to those gears, as in artists recommending, endorsing those gears. If Fandalism is all about fans, if I am big fan of Pud the drummer, would love to know what sticks he uses and what kit he endorses.
Again, extending the fan aspect, sell used gears by the artists themselves to their fans. Fans will be happy to pay a premium for the used gears of the artists they follow.
Artist profile can be paid too. Basic profile is free to create. You can add, maybe upto 10 tracks. And to reduce your server bandwidth, stream those at lowres (low BPM encoded) for the free users. Subscribed users get hires versions. No artist wants to sound bad. That'll push many guys to be paid subscribers.
Found this link from a comment thread on TechCrunch: commenter (Nick Such) said, jhalf of the YC companies may be affected: http://jpf.github.com/domain-profiler/ycombinator.html.
But this graph is (I think) earlier on Dec 22nd. Will be interesting to see how the graph looks like after that day's mayhem!
I transferred to NameCheap, which also sent me a mail to accept/decline. Wasn't aware of the same from GoDaddy. Thanks for letting me know. Just did it. Hope to be done in half-hr.
Just transferred (recovered/save/gavelife) (well, just) 3 domains out of GoDaddy. Rest of my domains are gathering dust elsewhere, but I am happy that this marks the end of my relationship with the nasty GoDaddy. Best wishes to them with their skimpy dress ads on SupBowl!
Well-written. But as you said, one will do it, only if something is culturally fitting so there is little friction. Else launching internationally also means managing internationally. How many of us have the bandwidth to do so (with our tiny startup budget)?
I can see LetsLunch is a great fit for Italy.
I am not even sure if Twitter is that mainstream. However, its mainstream as far as businesses (customer service, deals/coupons, etc.), celebrities (one-way traffic) is concerned. I still don't see many of my friends even care to be on Twitter, because from a social conversation pt of view, there is no conversation really.
On the other hand, we'll do the same for Android app as well. Because Android has no promocodes and that suck! I hope once thats done, we'll be able to make it public.
