My son plays FiveM almost exclusively when he is on the computer gaming. He has been enamored with it for years now. As a parent who is also a gamer, I can't help but chuckle when I hear the conversations going on between everyone. Although it is not my cup of tea now, when I was that age, I would have killed to have such a world available for me to engage with.
The conversations can be interesting to put it mildly. When I get the chance to play, I mainly play a police officer and it has caused more than one moment of confusion when I didn't realize my partner had taken a work call and their co-workers could hear me barking out "lawful orders" from the other room.
Roleplaying games are really great for exercising your social skills and creative expression though, that's for sure.
Trillian isn't dead though. I still use it, despite the internet becoming more and more of a walled garden.
Trillian still works just fine with Google hangouts, and facebook messenger too, as long as it's not a group chat.
Right now, I just want more people to know about it and get some good feedback on what works and what doesn't. I'd be super happy if guitar teachers and other music educators pick up on it. It'd be great if I got some good pull-requests too. I'd like to make more YouTube videos, relating Guitar Dashboard to the theory and showing some examples. I'm not a keyboard player, but Piano Dashboard seems like an obvious addition :)
Why is ColdFusion always the ugly red-headed stepchild? I realize that the amount of people using it in comparison to PHP is very low, but it still exists! Can we get some love?
What about C# and Java? These are widely popular with big companies with a lot of money.
I think adding a "tools" section would be a little helpful for beginners, like myself, to find out about. I use jsfiddle for online code edit a lot, and I prefer Sublime Text 2 on my Mac and Netbeans on my PC workstation.
Wouldn't it be better if he was only holding a small 6" long stick, the kinect tracks that, and digitally adds the extended lightsaber? Maybe this was just his step 1.
It would minimize the destruction caused in your home from swinging around a 4' stick.
That was my thought a week ago. The kinect is limited in that it can only see the front of your body. Some movements obscure your body and it basically just freaks out.
The full length stick works better for duels. Filming cool duels is pretty much what this thing screams to be used for. Of course to minimize damage, you could probably use something lighter than a solid wooden stick.
I'm not sure if you are joking here or not -- but, if you've played with the Kinect on a 360, you'd note that it can recognize your hands, and only when you hold your hands out for a set period of time (2-3 seconds, cannot recall exactly) the Kinect wakes up and begins to allow you to input controls.
I was joking. I failed to locate the correct reference to the Hitchhikers Guide to The Galaxy, but I am sure there is a joke on gesture recognition somewhere in there.
It's nice to see that there are still some people out there that use (read: admit using) CF.
I personally use it as my primary language as well, and have successfully used it at every company I've worked for. I'll admit the tag based syntax is pretty ugly, but you can kick out some great apps with it.
Continue to perform contract work with the company that offered you the position. Explain to them why you are making the choice. If they have been successful in dealing with startups, they understand that it takes a person who is following a dream to make one happen. Don't take the salary job unless you really are strapped for cash, and/or have a family to take care of.
The question was raised when the made their proposal. The contract work was schedule to go until December and would continue if my decision was negative. However I do not have any other contracts lined up but I'm not really in need of cash right now.
I had my own home-built mp3 player in my car as well.
I removed my center console, and rebuilt a new one, that housed a complete computer inside it. Recovered the console with vinyl, ordered an IR receiver, got the Winamp remote control software, that translated remote buttons => keystrokes. I had it where it loaded Winamp on boot, plus my playlist of all my songs.
The only thing I never did was purchase a visual interface for it. I just had a sheet of paper printed out, with all the songs, and a # to the left of them. I would type in that number, and the song would start playing.
Thank you for such a killer "side" project!
