Yeah, I am also thinking app or phone

I am getting real tired of methologies and agile movements all together

Make it look like a cartoon without too much blood so that children can play it. Stuff it with memes and dances for children. Parents approve and ignore the fact that the child is playing an extremely violent (and detailed) game 12hrs a day and gets rewarded for shooting other players in the head. Parents pay up for lootboxes and micro transactions every time the child screams

That is one perspective. My kids played Skylanders and Disney Infinity when they were younger. Those games both had elements of shooting projectiles at enemies to eliminate them.

Fortnite is rated T and not M because there isn't realistic violence. When a player is eliminated a small flying object with an antenna shows up and it looks like they are teleported elsewhere. There is no blood or corpse or anything like that. It is not extremely violent enough to get an M rating like Grand Theft Auto or Call Of Duty.

There are very unrealistic elements of the game, like a grenade launcher that shoots large eggs (or snowballs in winter season), the fact that you can rapidly build forts out of mined materials, and a boogie bomb that when thrown at an enemy makes them dance for 3-5 seconds.

Yes I sort of agree, but I still think the game is centered around violence and guns, the best gun, the most deadly gun, the recoil of a gun, the damage of a gun, headshots, murder. The way my nephews speak now is sickening. And I also think it is purposely crafted and targeted at children because of their consumer power. See my reply below

Why is it all of the sudden the developers responsibility what children are allowed to play and not the parents?

Young males seem to tend to be fascinated with violence video games or not.

It is not the developers responsibility. I am just speculating in why the game is so popular

are you speaking from experience or why do you make such brave assumptions ?

Yes, I have observed my two nephews over quite some time now. Even play it with them sometimes even though I suck. I don't have any strong opinion on the matter, but it is strange watching a whole community of 8-9 year olds(!) begging for ingame purchases and discussing detailed specs of Assault Rifles with their friends. And it is pretty clear (to me) what drives the money in this game, and for example Rocket League. Parents paying for ingame goodies of children. (Yes I know 8 yo is young. But most parents will stop caring because of the peer pressure, every classmate they have get to play the game.

Yes!

Seriously @sandos, what are you working on there ? I want in

I don't understand how a machine becomes infected, it is perhaps not very clear yet? this article explains receiving an email containing a link OR a PDF with a link to a .hta file ? what a strange sentence. Can one get infected without user interaction, or even with a passive client ?

Yes, a vulnerable system can get infected without user interaction.

This malware somehow got seeded, either by (1) direct scanning the internet for vulnerable systems, or (2) traditional "open-this-link / install-this-file" emails/downloads. Maybe that's why we see at least 3 bitcoin addresses: 3 different "seeding" groups.

Corp networks shouldn't be accepting outside SMB connections, and home routers will block them too, so that's where user-initiated emails/downloads come in (or someone connecting an outside laptop).

From what I gather, it tends to be one person in an organisation opening a dodgy attachment, then it spreads through the internal network via unpatched SMB flaw.

That, or they bring a work computer home, get infected, then bring it back to work. Could happen if the network they got infected on resolved all domains (so it didn't execute then), but their corporate network didn't.

This is what I want to know[0] too.

To mitigate, you can disable SMB1.0 with the following command. Make sure to run as administrator:

    dism /online /norestart /disable-feature /featurename:SMB1Protocol

[0]: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=14335845

To mitigate, Install Security Patches in a Timely manner.

Also note that only works on windows 7 and later, dism is not a tool for XP or Windows 2003 which seem to be the largest numbers hit by this since there is/was no patches for them

Careful, most old scanners out there only talk SMB1.

I'm all for recommending defence in depth, but please study changes like this before doing them.

In this case it is passive. SMB in unpatched windows has a Remote Code Execution vulnerability that allows attackers to execute arbitrary code on your system with out your knowledge or interaction

What do you work with, that you need these functions so frequently ? I never once even thought about needing or wanting any of these features

Really? I use these features daily. Pretty much whenever I want to share something that isn't just plain text...

But what are you sharing ? pictures of what ? videos of what ? I only paste urls or logs .. and then there is normal chatting

Oh man, all of those things are so convenient once you start using them. If you've never used them, great, irc is probably fine. For me, I could never ever go back to irc, having gotten accustomed to all that stuff on slack.

For example, want to share a screenshot? Hit print screen to capture it, click to the browser, click to the tab, hit ctrl-v to paste, done. Instead of, what, uploading an image to an image-sharing site? I wouldn't even know how to do that at this point.

For future reference in case you need to share a screenshot elsewhere... It's literally the same process to post a screenshot to imgur. No account needed.

I am a big fan of greenshot. It takes over the print screen button. You then draw a box around the area you want to capture and then you can select to copy to clip board or open it in the sketching portion or even upload direct to imgur where it then puts the URL of the file in your clipboard.

How slack copy from the source ? I'm missing something or you never do ctrl+c ?

PrintScreen copies to the clipboard.

Oh thank you!

I use those features all the time.

I feel like I am in a very similar situation. Was lucky to work in a tight, high energy environment with real risk and spirited people for a couple of years. Now the growth is out of control and I don't know half the people in there. Employees are fighting for positions and roles under clueless management and it has become a soulles dull hell hole in a short year. The positive thing here is realizing what matters most to me. I don't care about money that much, and I'm not so sure it even matters to me what I do for a living as long as I experience that drive again. Thank you for posting the original post

You are not alone. I find this disrespectful and very irritating. Probably depends on the tempo of your workplace. I am dodging meetings all day long, and when I join one I expect everyone to be prepared and fully focused

I find this disrespectful and very irritating.

I am dodging meetings all day long...

Hmm.

Yes, the way I wrote that made it look bad. But I get 5 invitations per work day on average. In Outlook I have the option to Accept, Decline or set as Tentative. If I click Accept on 5 meeting invitations in a work day I will not be able to write a single line of code. So 3 out of 5 meetings I Decline with a message describing why. And yes, my organisation is obsessed with meetings, we are working on that

I want to quit
