The TV show Severance feels as though it's along those lines of thinking. Separate your work self from your personal self....completely

When it doesn't happen with any other makes, yes! Cost cutting out industry standard anti-theft tech should be the car companies responsibility. Also....17 other local prosecutors, not just Baltimore.

"industry standard". What standard? You mean the federal vehicle standard, which didn't require cars to have immobilizers?

Or do you mean that because Hyundai/Kia didn't do what other companies do, that the government has the right to fine them? If yes, then what is the federal standard for?

Industry standard means used widely across the industry, I would like to note that Hyundai and Kia are the largest Korean automotive makers. In the NA market, Hyundai is positioned #5 with 10% market share. In Korea, Kia and Hyundai combined have ~79% of the market. So to frame it as "they are not using industry standard" is wrong as at least 10% of the NA market and ~80% of the Korean market does not use this technology.

So in the past, the most stolen make of car was the Honda Accord.

Apparently Honda should have taken note and aggressively pushed new anti-theft technology.

You are looking for a technological solution to a societal problem.

Oh boy, how did that play out? I feel as though it's a give a mouse a cookie situation with people power tripping like that, I can't imagine it resolving well until they leave...

I left the company not long after that, so I don't really know how it ultimately played out :)

Except almost anything you do can be the beginning of that engine. Joining sports team, hobbyist group for anything will lead you to meet people, through whom you either meet or hear about other events. Strong network effects once you get going but you do need to have time to show up consistently and in a good spot

Many sports teams don't build all that much of friendship outside of training and competitions. They are acquitances with no other investment.

The moment you get injured or sick, friendship is gone. Same goes for hobby groups.

This is a very cynical take and I would recommend some self reflection. I know for a fact you can make lifelong friends from shared interests. I’ve done it, I have friends who have done it. Maybe it’s harder for some but it is absolutely common.

I mean, I was member of sports teams. Sometimes lifelong friendship evolves, but it is not nearly automatic nor super frequent.

Way more likely is that when people stop going for whatever reason, the relationship ends. Getting injured or sick or having new kid and less time or whatever all means you disappear.

This is a function of your skill and desire not a deficiency of the social activity

What part of that observation is about a skill or desire? I mean, I am describing what I observed to happen to people around me. If too many of them are "not skilled enough", then maybe it is not just about individual failures.

Great comment, feel like this puts into words what I see in interactions on here sometimes that puts me off. I might say that especially on Hacker News there are people who assume they're by default more knowledgeable than others.

That's interesting, I'd say that's one of the least likely fundamental differences, especially with these large 10k+ employee companies. Those differences in hiring should average out when compared to things like timing entering their markets, monopolistic advantages, regulatory capture that are external to the company.

Anybody can do it once, not everybody can do it once. It's just luck of the draw, most won't be able to, but they could.

I replaced my mbp battery recently, it wasn't too bad. Apple also quoted me needing to replace logic board, etc. due to some water damage indicators tripped. Just go slow and it's only ~<$200 for battery.

Not to hold you back from getting a new framework, I replaced my battery but am still looking at one of these too!

Reference to the book Snowcrash! It’s a fun book

Ahhh the next Stephenson I have on the docket

Your point send valid, but architect/builder is usually the bouncing back and forth type relationship though, plans are usually half baked and the surveys aren't right so stuff has to change. And builders are the ones on site every day overseeing, usually the architects just check in.
