I had some fun with Affinity Designer as a means to help in the lockdown. I designed a few [still adding more] sheets to print out and colour in and glue together as small craft projects.
I hope it helps, keeping some kids from being bored and the parents from being stressed [at least a little bit].
These are completely free to download for private use. Enjoy!
A new post on 2dgameartguru.com refining the buildings from the previous step-by-step tutorial.
Taking most of the existing elements and adding simple shapes like rectangles, circles and a few lines to add interest to the buildings in a quick and reusable way. Building your library of elements will make this a very modular approach to creating repeating, yet different 2D game assets.
It's been a while but here is the next 2Dgameartguru tutorial on small and simple buildings to populate town or map scenes created in vectors using mainly simple rectangles.
The tutorial is done using inkscape but can be recreated in any other vector design tool (Illustrator, Affinity Designer, CorelDraw, etc.)
Another inkscape tutorial on 2dgameartguru on character design just went online. This one is about rotating a character's face using simple shapes and guidelines to place, skew, rotate and scale the facial elements easily.
The tutorial is written using Inkscape (a free vector program) but the same technique would apply in Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, Affinity Designer, etc.
Here is another basics tutorial on creating your own game art props. It's time to start slicing and dicing with your own sort, using basic vector shapes in inkscape.
This is a follow up on the tutorial on the last step-by-step tutorial on creating an engaging title screen. I just dropped the logo/title into the last scene with a brief comment - which was picked up in the comments with a request to explain it a little more.
Here is another tutorial from 2dgameartguru on using inkscape/ vector art to create your game assets.
This tutorial covers the creation of a title screen for a 2D game with wizards & skeletons. It's a step-by-step tutorial starting with setting up of the page, the creation of a background, adding detail and the main elements to a final title screen to be used in a game.
Another step-by-step tutorial by 2dgameartguru.com on using simple elements, circles, and squares to create complex character designs like a dragon's head.
The tutorial works in most other vector tools (Adobe Illustrator, Affinity designer or Corel Draw) in a very similar way. The tools are named differently but the workflow would be the same.
Here is another requested tutorial in the space series. This easy to follow step-by-step tutorial on creating the various elements to make a space background with nebula, stars, planet and asteroid uses the free vector tool inkscape.
This is an addition to the space ships tutorial I posted early (http://www.2dgameartguru.com/2017/04/space-ships-revisted-cr...). I added a few more elements (guns, hull part, wings, engine bits, signs, etc.) to allow the quick creation of space ships in 2D - side on or top down.
I uploaded the kit files as CC0 Public Domain and the video shows the ease of use.
