I am always surprised that its considered legal. IMO that's the same as going on the street door by door and checking if one is left open to steal everything inside the house...

I'd pay a few dollars a month to use a service without ads and without surveillance. Services don't offer this and creators are staying on those services, so fuck them.

I was scratching my head reading it. The cognitive load was high with cryptic sentences like the above. AI-slop or not, there is no excuse for dense prose particularly if it is intended for a human reader.


They started with offering training methods for quantized models to save memory and added new things over time. They are very active in the local model community and have extensive documentation and tooling to help with running and training models locally.

I do have a genuine question though: what value are you adding at that point?

If you don’t understand the system, don’t know what the code is doing and you’re mostly prompting an LLM to make the decisions and implementation for you, what exactly is your contribution?

The ability to operate the tool isn’t much of a moat if everyone else has access to the same tool.

I don’t review assembly produced by a compiler because the compiler isn’t deciding what my system should do. It’s translating a program whose semantics were already specified. More importantly, that translation is deterministic.

A compiler takes a human-specified program and translates it into another representation while preserving its semantics.

If in five years I can give an agent a complete specification and reliably verify the resulting machine code against it, then sure, reviewing code may become obsolete and I’d happily stop doing it.

Also, keeping changes small isn’t just about making individual lines readable. It limits blast radius, makes behaviour easier to reason about, isolates mistakes, makes changes easier to revert and so many other things. None of those properties suddenly become obsolete because code generation got faster.


Site maintainer here. There is a polygon drawing tool in the upper right corner of the map. You can use it to draw polygons on the map and assign them a height. The shadows will update instantly. You can use it to add buildings that are missing from the map, simulate a tree placement or even simulate cutting down a tree if you set the height to 0.

I appreciate that the OP puts his finger on the problem. I think he's right. I wish there was more optimism or ideas about how to solve it, though. How do I fight against it as an engineer? Or, how do I become a "good" engineer? It feels like sometimes the only solution people have is effectively "don't use it."

A fine I presume, if someone figures out. You'd have to get the unit second hand or similar, all stores are required to ensure you've ordered an installation from a certified company when they sell it AFAIK. Last ones I bought, a few years apart, had it all integrated in the web shops. Just selected installation company from a dropdown, fixed price for basic install.

I was intensely stressed through high school and undergrad, then later in grad school, postdoc, full time job as computer scientist, then as a SWE. It wasn't pleasant but it drove me to achieve at far higher levels, in ways that paid off well in the long run (like financial stability and earlier retirement). Note: in undergrad, I specifically went to a school that did not have grades but still felt all the stress to perform.

I suspect that as unpleasant as stress is, it ultimately can make us better people.

I wonder if this points to a deeper limitation of AI, it can not do coding tasks it has not seen in its training material. Or could it possibly "generalize" to accompllish something like this anyway?


This is functionality currently built into Google search. I google "The Odyssey Showtimes" and it shows me when it's playing at all local theaters.

Then I can just pick which time works for me. I have never in my life had a theater be sold out when it's not an opening night or weekend for extremely big films.

Is this something you actually tried to approach before LLMs?


I independently reached the same conclusion, and I think we must be right, because the thing I thought I might have missed was some way in which the shoes/clothes are actually relevant and rule out one of those orderings. But our answer matches the one in the paper, and I don't see a mistake we could have made to reach the right answer in the wrong way.

I guess they were not optimising for a satisfying solving experience! (I'm not sure what 'expansion' means in this context, but it sounds like maybe the 'expansion strategy' referred to in the paper involved padding out problems with red herring premises?)
